Infinergia released a full analysis of this market in June 2017. It's based on interview and its proprietary database of off-grid telecom installations on key African countries.

In Africa, telecom operators (telcos) have a significant part of their telecom infrastructure (e.g. telecom sites, cell towers or BTS) with non-existent (off-grid) or poor (bad-grid) electrical supply.

Scope of study:

  • We studied 11 countries representing a 25% of off-grid sites in Africa and almost 60% of off-grid solar installed sites in Africa.

  • Via a bottom-up approach, we consolidated and crosschecked all data to summarize overall market size.

African Off-grid Solar Market Report:

Infinergia released in March 2015 a complete study on African off-grid markets (over 100 pages of data and analysis).

Scope of study:

  • Part 1: Off-grid quantitative dynamics. 33 countries analyzed and ranked according to their Off-grid PV potential (Off-grid PV installed base in MW, scoring, mid-term evolution, maturity scale)
  • Part 2: Rural electrification in Africa. We analyzed 33 African countries by stage of rural electrification, main programs involving off-grid PV deployment as well as policies and regulations.
  • Part 3: Off-grid PV development on 4 market segments analyzed: domestic (Solar Home Systems, solar lighting), communities (schools, health centers, water pumping, solar street-lights) and other industries (Telecom: Base Transceiver Stations, tourism: lodges and hotels/resorts, mining sites, oil & gas and traffic signal).
